"News of the Godly" is a very common segment in Le Show, and it covers news related to religion. Trigger Warning: as we will see with this week, and the next two episodes, they are often covering news about clerical sexual abuse of children.

It is also important to note here that this segment is much different than the sketch we see with "All in All", in that it is Shearer as himself, reading off news about the Church. However, this doesn't necessarily exlude the use of humor.

I think an aspect that is important in what Shearer is trying to note is that these are children who are being manipulated by the Church even after their experience with abuse, as they continue to not notify the parents before questioning the children.

As we enter the "News of the Godly" segment, again one of the few regular segments we see in this episode, it starts off automatically with a bit of a different tone. Here he is bringing to light the observation about how the news coverage of the Catholic Church, or more specifically the Vatican, is treated compared to the Anglican Church.

Shearer specifically states here that his obsevation was strictly made as something to just note, which is interesting because as we've seen throughout this episode, it is common for him to use wit or satire to respond to things that appear to be withholding some truth, yet here he doesn't explicitly say anything, but he also doesn't make a joke.

As you listen to him speak about things in "News of the Godly", he makes no attempt at joking around in speech. Many aspects of comedy or humor-centered radio broadcasts put together their show based on what jokes or bits they can make, yet here, and maybe for most of the segments in teh show, it seems that Shearer included it to bring to light the importance of sharing the news rather than utilizing it to make comedy.

Shearer makes the joke "No transparency, just clarity," playing with the idea that clarity allows the Church to have authorship in what it has done rather than open the doors to allow people to see for themselves. An interesting and iconic mark for the change in humor that Shearer does between sketches and news readings is his use of repetition and tone to indicate when something is funny, rather than having to use fiction or exaggeration like with sketches.

A tone shift and emphasis on the word "alongside" shows us that the particular point that was funny to Shearer was the fact that the Church would prefer to be working with the authorities. This seems to be funny because in most instances the authorities would be the police or the government, yet the Church would prefer that they live alongside rather than under the law.

"Now we know what galls the Vatican" seems to be a reference to the large and deep history that the Vatican has in relation to horrible things it has done, and Shearer seems to think that one of those many horrible things would be able to "gall" them, yet for them it was something done in a police investigation on their behavior. Again, a play with repetition of their own words.

Shearer then quickly transitions from the "News of the Godly" content to a previously mentioned incident regarding Father Murphy, a Priest from Milwaukee that sexually abused hundreds of deaf children.
