Le Show: On Dark Humor
Harry Shearer is a world-renowned actor, author, satirist, and comedian, known by many for his voice as Ned Flanders on the hit television show The Simpsons, as an actor for multiple seasons on Saturday Night Live, as well as an actor and writer for the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (1984). For the purpose of this exhibition, we are going to focus on one of Shearer’s projects, Le Show, which is a radio show hosted by Shearer that showcases a multitude of entertainment from scripted skits and witty political commentary to readings of public documents and original music by Shearer.
The topic of this exhibition will be on Harry Shearer's use of dark humor-- sometimes referred to as black humor, black comedy, dark comedy, etc.-- to analyze and come to a conclusion about its relationship to the severity of the subject and its relationship with truth and honesty.
